2009 Memorial Motorcycle Run raises money

Run shirt design for 2009The 3rd annual F.O.P. Law Enforcement Memorial Motorcycle Run was held on May 3rd, 2009.  The weeks leading up to this year’s motorcycle run were bumpy.  The run was publicly boycotted by a local business owner, and another local organization.  Both were calling for motorcycle riders to not participate in the event.

The Lodge still managed to drive forward with the run, and make it a success.  President Egan said “Comparing the numbers against last year’s run we had less riders sign up, but somehow we were able to raise more money this year.”  Egan also added “I believe this was accomplished by people who wanted to support the cause, but did not ride a motorcycle.  These people showed up at the beginning of the run, and donated to the cause.  I am very thankful and appreciate the donations we received the day of the run.”

The money raised for this run was donated to the 100 Club of Arizona.  A non-profit organization that assist families of fallen Law Enforcement Officers, or Firefighters who are killed in the line of duty.  They also assist Law Enforcement Officers, and Firefighters who are seriously injured on the job.   A little more than $4,000 was raised this year, and sent to the 100 Club of Arizona.

This year’s run started at Bobby’s Territorial Harley Davidson, and continued for about 132 miles.  The run stopped at the Cocopah Casino, Hooligan’s Sports Bar, Wild West Motorsports, Martinez Lake Restaurant, Mystique Custom Cycle, and ended at the LZ Bar and Grill.  It was hot, temp was around 105 degrees, but riders still enjoyed the ride.

Those who signed up received a t-shirt at the beginning of the run, and ended it with a meal catered by the LZ Bar and Grill.  The food was good, and the band playing at the bar provided energetic music to enjoy.

The door prizes this year were the best yet.  This year’s grand prize was a Bose Wave music system, donated by the Bose Corporation.  There were so many items donated that once all of the door prize tickets were pulled, the tickets had to be put back in the bucket to be pulled again.  Everybody won something, and many of the people who participated won more than one door prize.

The Yuma Lodge would like to thank all people and business who donated either money or products.  Below is the list of donated:

Keep checking this web site early next year for information on the motorcycle run in 2010.  Keep the shiny side up!
